The applicant is invited to contact the engineer, researcher or teacher-researcher proposing a thesis subject (their contact details are given in the detailed description of the subject). For the eligibility step of the competition procedure, the applicant can apply on a maximum of 3 subjects (to be ranked in order of preference). Then, for the admission step, the applicant can apply for only one subject.

To be admitted, it is requested:

• to have a Master degree or a diploma conferring the degree of Master's degree, on the month preceding the first year enrolment, i.e. on October 1rst of the current year at the latest
• to have graduated with honors
• to provide a transcript of grades from the Master degree with the class ranking or a an attestation from the head of the Master program indicating the class ranking of the candidate relative to the rest of the class (10, 25 or 50 %)
• to have previously gained a significant experience in research namely a Master-level internship in a research team.

Admission depends on an oral examination.

The oral examination takes place in front of a jury composed of 16 scientists from the 8 specializations of the doctoral school, a PhD candidate from the doctoral school (DS) and the director of the DS.

For the examination procedure, the results are published online on the doctoral school website, 24 hours after the end of the last day of the oral examination, at the latest.

Admitted applicants must confirm their acceptance by e-mail to: edoc.se@u-bordeaux.fr within two days following the publication of the list.
After this date, or following a withdrawal, the doctoral contract will be offered to the first candidate on the waiting list who is eligible for this funding.

Applicants on the waiting list will be contacted individually by e-mail in the event of a withdrawal. Upon receiving this e-mail, the applicant has two days to confirm their acceptance by e-mail to: edoc.se@u-bordeaux.fr 
 After this date, or following a withdrawal, the doctoral contract will be offered to the first candidate on the waiting list who is eligible for this funding.
